Why We Are Saying No To Black Friday

traid-pass-it-forward

Whilst we are a clothing retailer obviously encouraging the purchasing of products, we like to think our acey women are buying garments they genuinely want and will wear again and again.

There's no denying, as a business we feel the pressure to participate in Black Friday, the notion of missing out on potentially lots of customers does cross our mind.

After much debate we have decided not to participate in the madness that is Black Friday and Cyber Monday for the second year running, it goes against our values as a company that is working with brands doing business better. We work with designers that are reducing their social and environmental impact and the notion of someone purchasing on the thrill of a hefty discount doesn't sit well with us.

Instead we want to help you create a lean closet by giving your old clothes a new life with our clothing charity partner Traid.

We were drawn to Traid’s 360 approach of improving and reducing the impact of clothing, through their charity shops across the UK they extend the life of unwanted clothing, helping it find a new home.

They use the money raised to fund international development projects that improve working conditions and practices in the textile industry. Here's how you can do your bit:

1. Look at your wardrobe, what are your wardrobe building blocks - the pieces that shape your wardrobe, a good sweater, your favourite coat or the jeans you live in. Keep hold of those bits. It's the pieces that were a wardrobe faux pas or have never and will never be worn that we want.

2. Make a pile of your unwanted clothing and bag them up.

3. Schedule a home collection. Londoners this could not be easier for you. With our charity partner Traid you can schedule a home collection of all your unwanted clothing by simply calling: 020 8733 2580 and click Option 1. More information here.

4. For those of you not in London fear not you can send your old clothes to Traid's sorting office via our freepost label: Download Freepost Label Here

5. Coming to our London pop up shop next week? We will have a clothing collection bin at there, the store opens next Thursday 1st December.

We will continue to offer first time customers 10% off when they sign up to our mailing list (bottom left of the page) and we are offering free international shipping on all orders over £150. Business as usual today. Happy Friday #aceywomen.
